Green Chemistry

Not a Trend, a Cultural Commitment

There’s an ingrained sense at Asymchem that as strong as we are today, there’s always room for improvement. From our CEO to every bench chemist, our corporate culture supports and encourages continuous improvement, believing that real opportunity lies in optimizing chemistry to make it more sustainable. Importantly, that commitment is matched by investment; we’re happy to take on new challenges.

And while we’re confident in our abilities, we’re open to and seek out collaboration with other companies and with academic institutions. When it comes to green manufacturing processes, we’re all in this together.

Electrochemistry

Maximizing Potential with Flow Chemistry

Discovery chemists are making great strides using electrochemistry to synthesize new molecules. But while their findings are exciting, the result is often just a few hundred grams of product; scaling production using electrochemistry has been a challenge.

Here at Asymchem we think ahead and have been working in collaboration with Professor Phil Baran to make these reactions scalable by marrying electrochemistry with flow chemistry. Additional engineering and material innovations support this chemoselective process. Read more here.

Flow Chemistry

Sustainable Technology to Support Innovation

Asymchem believes that flow continuous reaction technology will revolutionize most traditional batch reactions in the near future. Since 2011 we have developed and perfected flow chemistry, making us one of the world-leaders in the field, registering patents around the world. With its inherent efficiencies, flow chemistry is the cornerstone to our commitment to waste reduction and sustainability. For highly selective processes like electrochemistry and photochemistry, flow offers the ability to scale up production safely and cost-effectively.

Enzymes

Captive Production Ensures Ready Supply

Enzymes as biocatalysts have caught our attention in recent years. By building our own enzyme library, developing fast enzyme screening and evolution, enlarging fermentative production and even discovering the possible applications of immobilized enzymes in this industry, we are at the forefront of companies looking to commercialize the application of this technology.

Our high-throughput screening tools — robotics — increase the number of enzymes we produce in house and take advantage of new methods for engineering new catalysts. We’ve made substantial investment in this area, because we know that by eliminating the need to obtain enzymes from a third-party, we simplify the supply chain while reducing costs for our customers. By producing enzymes captively, there’s no need for stabilizers and additional ingredients that only increase shelf life.

Photochemistry

Harnessing Light Energy at Scale

As an early adopter of new technologies, Asymchem is ramping up photochemistry production capabilities to transfer promising molecules discovered by med chemists to production levels. We’re watching as pioneers in this area access new structures and new chemical entities in novel ways. As their candidates progress through assays and show potential on a larger scale, these chemists are looking for partners to help them take their drug to market. We’re investing today in practically and sustainably scaling photoredox technology and are prepared to help.
